Chevy Donates $2,000 to Harvard Band Uniform Fund, Harvard High School Band held a fundraising concert at Harvard Chevrolet on December 1. The event was held to raise money for the band’s uniform fund, which is approaching its goal of $25,000.
The band played a medley of holiday music and there was a spirited turn-out in support of the concert. Contributions from those attending were $1,260. And Harvard Chevrolet, Buick & GMC General Manager Martin Figeuroa announced that he would commit another $2,000 to the uniform fund, bringing the total fundraising effort for the night to $3,260.
“The band is an important part of Harvard High School,” Figeuroa said in presenting his contribution to the fundraising event. “We are proud of tonight’s turnout and happy to support the band.”
“This was really a big hit,” said Korey Coffey, band director in Harvard. “We knew this was a little unusual – having a concert at a car dealer, but it turned out great, and everyone had a great time. We thank all who contributed, especially Harvard Chevy for their generous support of the band.”
The Harvard Food Pantry, a non-profit organization that helps the needy with gifts of food and other goods, is partnering with the local Harvard Chevrolet Buick & GMC to help raise money to complete the new parking lot and buy a walk-in freezer for its new building on Harvard Hills Rd. Harvard Chevrolet Buick & GMC will match all contributions to the Pantry, up to $250 per contribution. The contribution must be made at the dealership, located at 333 S. Division Street in Harvard.
"We understand the value of helping our community and we are completely behind the efforts of the Harvard Food Pantry," said General Manager Martin Figueroa. "we believe this fundraiser can help the Pantry achieve its goal of having a completed facility here in Harvard."
Funds raised by the partnership will be used to complete the paving of the parking lot at the Pantry and buy a walk-in freezer for the building.

Harvard Chevy Donates Scoreboard
Harvard, IL… Harvard Chevrolet, Buick & GMC provided the cash funding for a new, electronic scoreboard for the Harvard Stingers, the community junior tackle program. The scoreboard has been installed at the practice field at Milky Way Park, on Highway 173 and Lawrence Road in Harvard.
“We are happy that we could help out with this project,” said Martin Figueroa, general manager of Harvard Chevrolet, Buick & GMC. “This new scoreboard can serve the Harvard junior tackle program and several other sports programs that take place at Milky Way Park.”
Bruce Fiegel is the president of the Harvard Junior Tackle program which began in 1976, a part of the Illini Youth Football League. The Harvard league consists of four divisions -- Bantam weights (7 & 8 year olds), Light weights (9 & 10 year olds), Middle weights (11 & 12 year olds) and Heavy weights (12, 13 & 14 year olds). They play a nine game season with playoffs.
“With the cash contribution from Harvard Chevy, we were able to get our new scoreboard,” Fiegel explained. “We coupled that with volunteer work and contributions and saved another $6,500 in direct costs. Volunteering their time and talent were Harvard Crane (Tim Stevens), the Harvard Fire Protection District and the time of talented individuals like Pete Livdahl, Steve Harter and Jeff Martin.”
